Welcoming in the spring

It seems very strange that earlier this week we were making snowmen! I AM SO READY FOR WARM WEATHER! I've already abandoned my coat, not that I wear it much even in the winter. If it snows again I might just cry. My kids are just as ready if not more so and took the first opportunity they found to get in water. Isaac's immediate question at the first sign of spring is always "can we have a squirt gun fight?!" Soon my son, soon.

The non engagement engagement shoot

Our longtime friend Mike had his wonderful girlfriend Sarah in town for the week and we had the chance to meet up for dinner tonight. I was still itching to shoot a couple and they kindly obliged! I'm going to start an internet rumor about Mike proposing! Not that we wouldn't all love that- HINT HINT. As you can tell, they don't have ANY fun together. I love you guys, thanks for being such great sports! I would love to shoot your wedding someday.

The last hurrah

On the way home from Ohio we stopped at COSI in Columbus. It is a spectacular children's museum and we had a BLAST!!! It was the perfect end to a very relaxing vacation.

The blushing bride

For the first time I didn't blog yesterday. I kept holding out for the shoot that just wasn't going to happen. I really wanted to get some engagement shots for my sister in law, and the day for her fiance went from bad to worse. Nothing serious-just petty annoyances like a broken starter on his truck. But by the evening it had been a rough day and the last thing that I wanted to push him into were some photos. I will hopefully do them another time. Today, I did accompany her to try on her dress and I snuck a few shots in. I won't post the whole dress until after the wedding. She is going to be an absolutely beautiful bride.
I took off the pics of her face so she can have her big reveal day on May 3! Stay tuned.

Just the beginning!

This is a bridesmaid bouquet for my sister in laws wedding. I'm gearing up to shoot an engagement session with her and her fiance for them to use at their wedding. The wedding is in May and my challenge is to take outdoor shots and not only hide the snow but make them look warm! I'm excited to share them with you.

Vacation

Today was vacation in the true sense of the word. We did absolutely nothing. And it felt SO good. It has been a LONG time since we've had this much free time. We really should do it more often. Here are a few shots from our quiet family day.

Spring Break!

We are in Ohio! I am trying to figure out how to get pictures on from here. I will work out all of the kinks and double post early tomorrow. I hope you had a great weekend. I can't believe that parts of the country are warm right now! We drove through quite a mess of snow to get here today. Columbus, Ohio got 20 inches of snow! We crawled through there at about 20 mph today. About every mile there was a car or truck off the road. But we made it safe and I hope to post some exciting pics from this trip. Have a good night!

In like a lion

True to form- March came in strong. The kids had a great time in the snow. This morning their dad took them out for some sledding. Isaac came back with this little story. "Mommy! Dad put my sled at the top of the twirly slide at the park and instead of stopping on the bottom there was a big bump and then I went all the way down the big hill!!" This is why dads take the kids sledding. Mommy would have had a heart attack. I have no photos of the possible broken bones. Just sweet snow angels this afternoon.

It's all about the books

How's that for an author headshot?! He's got the glasses, scarf, collar and smirk! Now all he needs is a best seller! And as brilliant as he is, its on the way! We took our weekly trip to the library and Caleb was having fun cruising the furniture and biting everything in site. We've got to instill the love of books in him even if it's just by making sure he has plenty around!

I love that Livi just parked herself in the middle of the floor and was in her own world.

Gotta love Wonderlab

We played today at the fabulous Wonderlab and the first shot I tried to take I got the "NO PAPARAZZI!" hand.I did manage to get her as she played with the air hoses though. There is something so fascinating about moving air. Heck, I even played with it for quite a while!
Our friend sat and built at the light table and the way the light came up on his face was delicious!

I'd much rather be shooting people

This photo a day business is hard. I've learned that I gravitate much more to people than things. I also enjoy shooting people much more. But it is important for me to learn to use my camera to convey something I find unusual or beautiful the way I would a person. Some days I just need to give my kids a break. If anyone out there wants to donate their kids for a good cause-let me know!

Even when the sun doesn't shine- it does

Today was a dark and gloomy day until I shot a few more pics of this precious baby. I really wanted to do some little naked snuggly shots but this little guy was just too awake and didn't want to be posed! He is so sweet. Caleb wasn't sure he wanted to share my attention with him. I guess I understand- it is pretty hard to compete with a naked newborn!

One of those days

I'll be the first to admit that this wasn't a photography kind of day. I had a kid home sick and it was just sort of a blah day. It started with this lovely creature out by our trash. I took exactly 1 picture because the thing scared the begeebers out of me. I tried shaking the fence and scaring him off by other silly means to no avail. I didn't want our cats getting into it with him. But he didn't leave until the wind really picked up and he was good and ready. I ended the day as I do many days, folding diapers. I love my sons Fuzzi bunz! I never thought of myself as a cloth diaper kinda momma. But I can't quite imagine doing it any other way now. I started them with my daughter and couldn't wait to use them again. Why? Well, I like not contributing to the landfills. I like the softness against their skin. I like the absence of diaper rash. I like, or rather, my wallet likes- not going on diaper runs where I add 10 other things to the cart. And finally, I like making a little contribution to the family financially. Every time I wash them I think of the money I just saved. I love it. But the number 1 reason has to be because they are just so dog gone cute on! ( If you need proof of this there are plenty of pics of Caleb in nothin but his Fuzzi Bunz!)
